Bonolo Mokoma’s story began at JVW when she was just 11 years old, a focused and determined young girl with a quiet confidence and a love for the game. From the moment she stepped into the JVW system, her growth was steady, marked by resilience, talent, and a willingness to learn at every level.
As she progressed through the JVW Development Pathway, Bonolo moved up through the U14 and U16 ranks, later earning her place in the club’s Sasol League team. Primarily a midfielder in JVW’s youth structures, her technical ability, composure, and football intelligence made her an essential part of every team she played for.
While her foundation was built at JVW, it was also during her high school years at Norkem Park High that Bonolo could become a role model at such an early age. Representing her school in the JVW Schools League, a key grassroots project run by JVW and where Norkem Park plays in.
The Schools League, designed to create opportunities for young players, became another valuable platform for Bonolo’s development. Her performances there were a reflection of the hard work she was already putting in at club level, and they helped shape the role model she is fast becoming for young girls still starting their journeys.
Internationally, Bonolo represented South Africa’s U17 and U20 National Teams, often featuring as a reliable and disciplined centre-back. In early 2025, her progress was rewarded with a call-up to the Senior Women’s National Team, where she joined the wider group preparing for the WAFCON tournament, a massive step forward in her career.
The moment every JVW youth player dreams of, promotion to the JVW First Team, competing in the top-tier Hollywoodbets Super League, was a big step for Bonolo at the beginning of the 2025 season.
But in true Bonolo fashion, there was a twist. Though she had played as a defender and midfielder for most of her career, she made her First Team debut in a completely new role: as a striker. And she hasn’t looked back.
Now sitting among the top three leading goalscorers in the league, Bonolo is not just adapting to a new role, she’s owning it. Her journey through every line of the field, from defence to attack, speaks volumes about her versatility, courage, and passion for the game.
A player with a dream, which is becoming her reality, through the dedication and commitment of Bonolo and the platform that JVW offers.
