The JVW Girls School League, established the Diamond Cup, in celebration of women’s sports and the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The tournament invited schools to select their most exceptional players to represent their badge, colours, and school, as it was an Open age tournament with no age restrictions.
The tournament model was inspired by and mirrored the FIFA Women’s World Cup, with 32 competing schools vying for the title, Champions of the Diamond Cup, the largest high school football tournament for girls.
The tournament spanned over two days, with the Group Stages providing the necessary flair and flavour, and Women’s day set the stage for the Finals, where entertainment, strategy, and grit were showcased.
The Diamond Cup, was a breathtaking display of skill, speed and immense talent, as teams battled it out on the field. Supersport Schools captured every moment of the action, with several sports media houses on the ground, interviewing standout players. The tournament served a platform for over 600 players to display their skills and talents to international and national scouts, creating an excellent opportunity for young football players to showcase their talents and potentially pursue a career in football through the JVW player pathways program.
