The Gabriela Salgado comeback marks a powerful and emotional moment for JVW FC and its supporters. After months on the sidelines, the midfielder has returned to full training and competitive football, reclaiming the game she loves. Her journey back is one defined by resilience, patience, faith, and unwavering support.
Below, Salgado reflects on her recovery, the toughest moments she faced, and her goals as she moves forward following the Gabriela Salgado comeback.

The journey after injury
Salgado admits the recovery process tested her both physically and mentally, but she believes it shaped her into a stronger player and person.
“It hasn’t been an easy journey, but the support from my family, friends, and teammates meant everything. Being sidelined was tough, yet it helped me grow. It taught me patience and changed how I view the game. It also reminded me to be grateful for simple things, like walking and moving freely.”
She explains that the emotional challenges were just as demanding.
“Mentally it was a rollercoaster. I kept God close throughout the process. My wife was a constant source of strength and reminded me I would come out stronger. I allowed myself to feel every high and low, and my hunger to return kept growing because I truly missed the game.”
The toughest moments
One of the hardest stages came early in her recovery.
“I couldn’t walk and had to rely on others for simple tasks. That was mentally challenging. As athletes, we’re used to independence, so having to relearn everything step by step was difficult.”
Despite setbacks, Salgado stayed focused on progress.
“I believed God has a bigger plan. I focused on small improvements and celebrated every win. Setbacks don’t define you, your response does.”
Support system behind the comeback
Family played a central role throughout the Gabriela Salgado comeback.
“My wife Robyn Moodaly and family were key. They put their lives aside so I was never alone. They allowed me to be human, to feel frustration and pain, while still giving me comfort and encouragement.”
One special gesture during the recovery period stood out. JVW teammate Ava De Necker rallied her support behind Salgado by writing “Salgado” on her headband during matches. What started as a personal show of encouragement quickly turned into a team-wide trend, with more JVW players following suit. The simple act symbolised unity, belief, and unwavering support throughout the Gabriela Salgado comeback.

Back on the field and looking ahead
Returning to full training has been especially meaningful.
“Being back means everything. The last six months were intense, with hard work and setbacks, but it was all worth it.”
With renewed gratitude, Salgado now focuses on consistency, growth, and making an impact for both club and country, with her call up to Banyana Banyana coming up. Her comeback stands as a powerful story of perseverance and inspiration for young footballers everywhere.
