JVW FC Blue Diamonds Open Hollywoodbets Super League

The 2026 Hollywoodbets Super League season officially kicked off this past weekend with a brand-new league structure. The league has now been divided into two streams of eight teams each. The new format is expected to increase competition throughout the season.
JVW FC Blue Diamonds made a strong start to the campaign with an impressive opening victory. The team continued with the same core structure and style that secured a second-place finish in the 2025 season.
Goncalves Steps Into Midfield Role
Julia Goncalves delivered an excellent performance in the central defensive midfield role. She has stepped into the position following the departure of Jessica Wade, who joined Åland United in Finland.
Goncalves looked comfortable throughout the match. She controlled the midfield well and also added her name to the scoresheet.
New Signings And Young Talent Shine
New signing Shannon Macomo made her official Hollywoodbets Super League debut for JVW FC after joining from the University of Johannesburg. She settled quickly into the pace of the game and showed promising signs for the season ahead.
Fifteen-year-old Gugu Mntambo also celebrated a special moment after making her league debut. Mntambo was promoted from the JVW Sasol Team and is a product of the JVW FC development pathway.
Her debut once again highlights the club’s commitment to youth development and player progression.
Sauls also made her return to the club after spending two years with Mamelodi Sundowns. Her experience in the JVW Setup will add depth and composure to the squad.
Blue Diamonds Fire In Front Of Goal
JVW FC Blue Diamonds played exciting and enjoyable football throughout the match. The team moved the ball well, attacked with confidence, and controlled the tempo for large periods of the game.
Gaby Moodaly-Salgado opened the scoring for the Blue Diamonds with a confident finish and delivered an outstanding overall performance. Her impact on the match earned her the Player of the Match award.
Nyandeni, Goncalves, and Mokoma each added a goal in a dominant attacking display. Ramatlaohle also got onto the scoresheet after calmly converting a penalty kick.
The result gave JVW FC Blue Diamonds the perfect start to the new Hollywoodbets Super League campaign.

Second Team Shows Fight Despite Tough Weekend
Meanwhile, the JVW FC Second Team faced a demanding weekend schedule. The side played two matches in 24 hours but unfortunately did not manage to secure any points.
Their match against Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday was a highlight of the the day and was a competitive match up. JVW FC took the lead early in the match but narrowly lost 2-1 after a strong battle.
Whilst the Second Team has experienced major changes over the past two years, the squad is beginning to build strong chemistry again. More than nine starting players have either moved into the First Team setup or transferred to Kaizer Chiefs.
Despite this transition, The team continues to show positive signs for the future, and remains the feeder team for the First team.
Development Pathways Continue To Deliver
Thirteen-year-old Gontse Makhetha continues to impress after settling into the Second squad well. Her progress reflects JVW FC’s ongoing focus on development pathways. The club remains committed to creating opportunities for young players to grow within the JVW structure, and players are able to transition through the club, based on their abilities, character and maturity in the game.
GWDL Fixtures Awarded As Walkovers
In the Gauteng Women’s Development League (GWDL), JVW FC were awarded walkover victories after Chadi Puse could not honour their scheduled fixtures.
The opening weekend showcased the strength of JVW FC across all levels. From experienced players to rising young stars, the club continues to build for a strong future.
