JVW Football Club is proud to announce that four Blue Diamonds first team players; Casey Gordon (17), Bonolo Mokoma (17), Thorisho Mphelo (16), and Katlego Mohale (16); have been selected to represent the South African U20 Women’s National Team (Basetsana) in the upcoming CAF U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.
The national squad is gearing up to face Eswatini in a pivotal two-legged tie. This forms part of the ongoing qualification process for the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup. The first leg will be played away in Eswatini this weekend whilst the return leg set to take place on home soil the weekend of the 27th September 2025.
This round is part of the CAF (Confederation of African Football) U20 Women’s Qualifiers, a competitive campaign that sees some of the continent’s best young talent battle for limited spots at the global tournament. South Africa will need to overcome Eswatini to progress to the final qualifying round, where a win would secure their place at the World Cup.
Rising Talent from JVW
The call up of these four players underscores the strength and development ethos of JVW FC. All four athletes have played key roles in the clubs recent performances.
- Casey Gordon serves as the second choice goalkeeper to Kaylin Swart in the Blue Diamonds first team and recorded 2 clean sheets in the Hollywoodbets Super League ahead of her arrival at camp.
- Bonolo Mokoma has settled in well into her new position as the First team striker and currently sits in the top three of the Hollywoodbets League Top Goalscorer’s table.
- Thorisho Mphelo brings with her speed on the wing and has found her comfort with the first team after her promotion at the beginning of the season.
- Katlego Mohale was promoted to the first team during the August window after a tremendous showing in the Sasol team and at the various tournaments this year.
Their inclusion in the national setup not only reflects their individual talent, but also the growing reputation of JVW. The Blue Diamonds set up serves as a hub for developing elite women’s football talent in South Africa. All four players represented JVW at the recent Engen Cup. The JVW select team finished in 2nd place and took home a Silver medal. Bonolo Mokoma and Casey Gordon also received individual awards at the Pirates cup earlier this year.

The Road Ahead for Basetsana
Basetsana will be looking to assert their dominance early in the away leg to set up a comfortable return fixture at home. However, qualification is far from straightforward, even if South Africa overcomes Eswatini. One more final qualifying tie stands between them and a coveted place at the 2026 U20 Women’s World Cup.
These matches are not only crucial for qualification but also serve as a platform for these young stars to gain international experience and showcase their ability on a bigger stage.
JVW FC extends congratulations to Casey, Bonolo, Thorisho, and Katlego, and wish them and the entire national squad the best of luck in the upcoming qualifiers.
