JVW Football Club have recently selected a team of twenty players who will take part in the Dana Cup in Hjorring, Denmark in July this year. Entering into a G16 pool, the squad was selected from the U14 and U16 girls who are registered with the club. The Dana Cup Hjørring started in 1982 and is the World´s third largest youth soccer tournament. In 2018, the 37th edition of the tournament will take place with over 1100 teams competing throughout different age groups. JVW made their debut appearance at the tournament in 2016 and found themselves competing against top girl’s teams from around the world. Returning from the Cup, the girls were able to relish the experience having left the tournament with fond memories of competing at a higher level. This gives the team heightened determination going into this year’s tournament, by knowing a bit more of what to expect and sharing advice and tips with some of the new faces in the team. The team will depart from Johannesburg on the 21st July and return on the 30th. The tournament will run from the 23 – 28 July 2018, in Hjorring, Denmark, which is also home to Denmark’s top tier women’s football team Fortuna Hjorring. Another fantastic advantage to this trip, is visiting the Dana Cup Academy, which offers Danish and international female football players personal development with football as the main focus but also hand in hand with other educational options, tailor made for each individual student.
