The match began with Olympia FC taking the lead early, and they held on to their advantage going into halftime. However, JVW came out strong in the second half, and after some determined pressure, they managed to equalise. Just as the game appeared to be heading for a draw, the Blue Diamonds struck once more, scoring the winning goal in the final moments of the match to secure a 2-1 victory.

This encounter highlighted the high level of competition in the Easterns league, which is made up of a mix of teams, including former players from the Hollywoodbets and Sasol leagues. These teams bring valuable experience and skill, creating a competitive environment for the players. With former JVW players donning the Olympia FC kit, it definately added a personal touch to the match as they competed against their former team.

JVW’s neighbours, Olympia, proved to be formidable opponents, showing resilience and quality throughout the match. The game was a testament to the competitive nature of the Easterns league, providing an excellent platform for teams to refine their tactics and build match fitness ahead of the GWDL season.

The U15 Blue Diamonds also secured a win in their Easterns League match

Meanwhile, JVW’s U15 team travelled further east, where they took on Eastside United in another competitive clash at Bonaero Park. The U15’s emerged victorious with a 4-2 win, further showcasing the strength of JVW’s youth squads as they prepare for the upcoming season.

As the clock ticks down to the start of the 2025 GWDL season, both the U15 and U17 teams will continue using these Easterns league fixtures to fine-tune their performances. With the quality of opposition in the league, the Blue Diamonds are gaining invaluable experience and sharpening their skills, setting them up for a promising season ahead.

“The competition in the Easterns league is of good quality, especially because many of the players have played in the Hollywoodbets league, and some are still competing in the Sasol league,” said Van Wyk “This makes it an excellent opportunity for our players to face high-level competition and continue developing their game in preparation for the GWDL.” With only a few weeks left before the official start of the 2025 GWDL season, JVW’s youth teams are on track to enter the league with confidence and readiness, thanks to their hard work in these preparation matches.
