SCHULZ HEADING TO THE U.S

The newly formed partnership between the club and BRUSA seals another move abroad for JVW.

Schulz has been with JVW FC for 6 years, starting her journey in the Junior squad in 2014. Throughout the years, Nicola has positively progressed through the structure, making her way up from the Junior team to the Senior team and finally the First team.

Schulz received her first call-up to the U17 National Team in 2015 but unfortunately encountered a side-lining injury during the Youth team’s selection camp on the final day. This put her out of football for over a year, before returning to the pitch. Nicola put in the work, and after a consistent performance in the Senior team, was promoted to the First team for the 2019 Sasol League Campaign.

Schulz was hit with another blow at the start of league, and on making her debut for the First team, she suffered a second ACL tear that kept her from completing the 2019 season.

During her recovery time, Nicola took took up the role as the Development team coach, keeping her in the game whilst she focused on getting back to playing field. The recovery process wasn’t easy but having her continue being a part of the JVW Family as a coach, somewhat helped part of the mental aspect of her recovery.

With her imminent return, Schulz took up a Scholarship opportunity through JVW Partner, BRUSA and will be jetting off this month to Tennessee Wesleyan university in the USA and will look to major in Biology and History.

Schulz joins the growing list of South African players leaving the country to study and play football in the US, and becomes the 3rd JVW player to secure a scholarship abroad.

“Nicola has come a long way with the JVW family and has worked extremely hard to get herself ready to play again. We would like to thank her for all her invaluable contributions to the club’s program and JVW will always be home when she does return to South Africa. On behalf of the Club Management and all the players, we would like to wish Nicola everything of the best for the next part of her football journey” – Club Founder, Janine Van Wyk
