March week 2 concluded on a high
Reflecting on the past weekend, it was an incredible end to a very long match day for the Blue Diamonds. Following a full working week for our players, it caused a bit of frustration when the scheduled kick off didn’t go ahead, due to load-shedding.
The match started just after 9:00pm and both teams were buzzing from the start. It was a high intensity encounter with attempts on both sides of the field throughout the game. JVW managed to find a break in the 80th minute with a goal from Hollis.
JVW managed to hold the lead, and walked away with their first 3 points in the 2024 Hollywoodbets league and first win against the Cape Town based team since inception in 2021.
16 year old Julia Goncalves made her debut for the Blue Diamonds in the Hollywoodbets superleague. She was promoted from the JVW Development structure at the beginning of the season.
The First team have two fixtures this week with Durban Ladies on Thursday and University of Forte Hare on Sunday.
Preseason preparation complete
The JVW Development teams spent Saturday morning at Alberton Football Club to finalise preseason preparations.
The JVW Sapphires, Rubies, Gems U16, and Developing Diamonds played against the respective boys’ teams as their final preparations ahead of the upcoming weekend fixtures.
Additionally, the Gems U14 participated in the 2024 BCC tournament held last Sunday. With a newly structured team, it was the first time some of our players experienced playing in a competitive structure together.
Diamonds in action this weekend
The wait is finally over as the 2024 Gauteng Sasol league kicks off this weekend after a long preseason. With some new additions this year, they will be looking to continue their form presented at the Pre Season tournament. The Sapphires will take on Nicko Taurus at Highlands Park (Linksfield)
In addition, the Gauteng Football Association GWDL League also begins this weekend. Every two weeks the teams will be playing two matches. The first, hosted at Edenvale Football Club on Sunday, will see the Gems U14’s up against TUKS and RESA to kick off their 2024 Campaign.
The Blue Diamonds begin week 5 of the Hollywoodbets super league against Durban Ladies on Thursday, before meeting with league debutants University of Forte Hare on Sunday at UJ Soweto.
The Gems U16’s will be finishing off the Easterns Summer League on Friday night. This will be their final home match of the 2023/24 ELFA Summer League.
