It’s the restart of the Hollywoodbets Super League after just over a months break.
The Blue Diamonds are back in action and will be up against Cape Town based, Vasco Da Gama in the first Game of the double-header Sunday in a live match. TUKS Stadium will host two Hollywoodbets Super League fixtures, seeing JVW in action at 11:30, followed by Mamelodi Sundowns against UJ at 3pm.
The Bedfordview based team will be looking to start on a high and collect a full three points, especially after the 1- 0 loss suffered to Bloemfontein Celtic just before the break, where star midfielder Gabriela Salgado suffered a fracture to her collar bone. Salgado is due to return to the field in the next few weeks, once she has completely healed from the injury that put her out of the Banyana Banyana WAFCON squad.
The Blue Diamond Trio of Janine van Wyk, Robyn Moodaly and Kaylin Swart have returned to training and are eligible for selection ahead of tomorrow’s match. The three as well as Team Manager, Lauren Duncan returned back to South African soil on Tuesday following Banyana Banyana’s Historic win at the 2022 WAFCON, where they beat hosts Morocco (2-1) in a jam packed stadium last Saturday. Not only did our South African women’s team win their first WAFCON Gold medal, the victory served as qualification to the 2023 Womens World Cup, and through this achievement, has elevated the Women’s National team and support of Women’s football in the country.
The first match back will see some changes in the technical department, where JVW will be guided by care-taker Coach Mitch Stevens, assisted by Unathi Mabena and Alexia Cassar on the sidelines. Stevens worked with the team from the start of the season, alongside Coach Arthur who left his post at the beginning of July, and has now taken over the reigns of the First team in an interim position.
With just 5 matches left to the turn of the 2022 Season, the Bedfordview based Blue Diamonds will be working to capitalise on all available points, to finish in the top 4 before the second round of fixtures.
Doors open at 10:00am at the TUKS Stadium, and is open to spectators.
