The JVW Girls School League has expanded its horizons tremendously. Initially starting with 12 teams in 2012, the league now hosts more than 100 school teams after celebrating its 5th successful year in 2016.
Every year the competition is somewhat unpredictable as schools tend to gain and lose players, which makes for highly-anticipated seasons.
The beauty of the game lies in developing a number of girls as well as exposing them to how football can be in a well-structured league at school level. 2016 Open, U17 and U15 Champions Hoerskool Vorentoe High School, Rand Girls’ School and Jeppe High School for Girls will be clenching onto their titles as the imminent start of the 2017 season fast approaches.
With the constant growth of the League, new school teams find interest in participating and this creates an atmosphere of fulfillment in the contest.
What is a league without recognizing the sublime talent of individuals and teams? The league cannot be concluded without the JVW Awards evening which is held at the end of each Season. Not only do the overall winners get their trophies, but awards are given to individual excellence for both players and coaches.
The JVW Schools League is on the rise in Gauteng, thanks to our hardworking ladies on the ground as well as with the assistance of Ekurhuleni Sports and Recreation who believe in the program and its vision going forward. The League’s partnership with Varsity College is another added benefit where aspiring players have the opportunity to be chosen as Bursary candidates. This is one of the ways in which we encourage girls that no matter what their dreams may be, education is always the foundation of achievements and is very important to have.
We now wait anxiously for the 2017 edition of the JVW Girls School League to kick off, and look forward to another nail-biting season.
Who will take the title this year?
