The JVW Girls School League is currently in its 4th year, and the league is growing at a rapid rate, with more girls and even more schools showing an interest in Women’s Football. The 3 term schools league is slowly coming to an end with just a few outstanding fixtures needing to be caught up.
The JVW 4 Term School League has kicked off with a bang, with more than 1800 girls actively participating throughout Gauteng. 2015 has seen the Girls School League almost double in size from the previous year, with a Pretoria Stream being introduced for the first time.
The Joburg League has been split into two streams, to accommodate the number of interested schools, with an East Rand and Pretoria stream all running simultaneously. Girls are now able to play in a competitive and structured environment, working hard to reach their goals and dreams in the sport, and having the correct platform to take their sport to the next level.
It will be a tough but interesting league this year, with all schools fighting for top spots, enabling them to progress to League Playoffs, where one School will be crowned Winners of the JVW Girls School League.
‘’It is so inspiring to be able to watch these young girls playing soccer at school level. We have scouted quite a number of girls from the JVW School League over the years and have put them in a club structure where they are able to further their careers in the sport. I applaud the schools, sports coordinators, coaches and parents who have given these players opportunity to play, which adds to the ever growing number of women’s football players.’’ – Lauren Duncan, School League Cordinator
We would like to wish all the teams the best of luck for the season, and hope to see more girls filtering into club structures.
