The JVW FC First team kick-start their 2019 Sasol League campaign when they host Nicko Taurus at the Bedfordview Country Club today (Saturday, 6 April 2019). Kickoff is at 13h00.
Following hot on the heels of resigning midfielder Robyn Moodaly, comes the announcement of four young stars being promoted to the first team – Jessica Wade, Nicola Schulz, Sarah Walker and Isabella Ludwig – all of whom were part of the South African U-17 Women’s National Team (Bantwana) pool at some point.
Wade (15), who has been with the club for 5 years, was an integral part of the squad that played at the 2018 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay, while Schulz (18) missed out on an opportunity to make the U17 National Team after tearing her ACL in the final selections just over two years ago.
Sarah Walker (17) took home a gold medal at the Future Champs tournament with SAFA Johannesburg, which was played at the Nike Football Centre in Soweto. Ludwig (17) participated in the U19 Las Vegas Mayor’s Cup International Showcase in February – USA’s largest international youth tournament hosting over 700 teams from 20 countries.
She appeared in the colours of Downtown Las Vegas FC as a guest player. Both Walker and Ludwig have been promoted from (JVW) Randburg FC, coached by Banyana Banyana’s Gaby Salgado – 2018 Top Goalscorer, who is a regular in the JVW FC first team. The duo won the 2018 Rand Central Local Football Association league and cup double with Randburg FC. With development being a key focus of the club, the signing of these four players have proved that the objectives are being met and players are able to progress through the structure.
What will also work in the players’ favour and could fast-track their development is the fact that they will now be playing alongside their long time idols – Banyana Banyana players, Captain Janine van Wyk, Midfielders Nompumelelo Nyandeni and Mamello Makhabane as well as former Senior Women’s National Team skipper Amanda Dlamini. The quartet is eligible for selection to play against Nicko Taurus later today.
