Two JVW FC players have won a substantial amount of money which will go towards their Education after excelling at the VodacomNXTLVL Bootcamp.
The VodacomNXTLVL campaign which was launched on May 26, aimed at giving soccer players between the ages of 14 and 16 an opportunity to be coached and mentored by South Africa’s best loved soccer legends Mark Fish and Lucas Radebe. The programme invited young soccer players to upload a video of themselves completing a specific drill according to their playing position.
South Africans were able to vote for their favourite videos on the Vodacom NXTLVL website, to help determine who should make it to the top 100. A selection process was held where the soccer legends short-listed the videos according predetermined criteria.
JVW FC Junior Team Players, Kirsten-Lee Santillan, Cayla Goncalves, Shae-Lyn Henderson and Jessica Henwood made it through to the Bootcamp, together with 96 other aspiring players from around the Country, where they were put through extensive training and scientific testing.
Kirsten and Cayla both made it to the final round of 32, under the coaching of Fish and Radebe respectively. Although these two players are teammates at their Bedfordview-Based club, they were on opposite sides of the field facing eachother in the Final Match.
JVW Founder, Janine van Wyk expressed her delight on the news.
“We are so proud of our players who made it through to the Top 100, and extremely happy that both Kirsten and Cayla were chosen out of 100 players into the Final two squads. It shows that girls can compete at higher levels, and the work we are doing with our youngsters is paying off”
The Final match was played on a hot Sunday afternoon, with both Fish and Radebe and their respective teams, looking to come out victorious on the day and win the reward of a full bursary at TuksSport High School.
